I came across a 10 year old magazine in my home cleaning spree this week. I couldn’t believe I would keep an old magazine so I stopped & flipped through it and found this photo and article. It was February of 1998 when the comic strip character Cathy entered the world of homebased business ‘bliss’. And I can see that somethings never change, except maybe the size of her monitor. We still have ‘to do’ lists, phone calls and piles in the inbox to contend with. And we still have laundry and cleaning to fit into our schedules. Eating on the go, a big ‘no-no’ yet still an issue for so many of us. Coffee and pop, although we may have many more choices today, for many of us, we can’t work without one of them beside us on any given day.

As a freelancer, my motto is to always have more than one egg in my basket. And one of the favorite eggs in my basket is a seasonal data entry job. Each year it starts up in the Fall and runs till just before Christmas. This company is called Great American Opportunities (GAO) and I work as a Home Based Operator (HBO) transferring data from handwritten order forms to an online form.

This article was written to show you that all work at home ‘data entry’ jobs aren’t scams. This is a real company that has been in the school fundraising business since 1975. And I can also share with you that each year, in addition to bringing back HBO’s from previous years, GAO also offers contracts to new HBO’s. So it is possible to get on with this company for future work if you follow the procedures and pass the required testing. I’ll explain this at the bottom of this post.

Right now, I just want to share my joy. It is this ‘high’ that makes me love working at home. I’m so excited to have received my official login information for the 2009 Fall season that I feel like I’m gonna burst out in song & dance. I really do feel like dancing and singing, ‘I’m making money at home & I love it”. Working at home is a job but when you perceive it as making money doing something you love from the comforts of your own home - then the money becomes the icing on the cake. And by the way, I like thick icing.

So to all those who snub real data entry jobs and claim them all to be fake, my advise is “don’t apply here”. Just keep looking instead of working which is what we do each Fall season with GAO. Here we are typing for more than just ‘cookie jar money’ - it’s a real job for real pay. So for those who say “it’s impossible”, “it can’t be done” or “these jobs don’t exsist”, I say “nah,nah,nah ,nah” all the way to the bank each Fall.

I’m proud to be a part of this team and thank this company for using Home Based Operators for their data entry needs. Each year this program allows many work at home moms and others who work at home a legitimate way to earn money by working with a well-organized and established company.

OK, enough about me, now I’ll share the procedures for getting offered a contract with GAO for data entry work each Fall. Please don’t expect to send in your request and immediately be able to start. The average wait to be offered a contract has been up to a year or two for many of the current HBOs.

Before starting you should know that you are required to have an up-to-date computer with DSL or cable internet connection to even be considered for a HBO position.  And you will need to be proficient in data entry in order to pass the test.

You are required to take (and pass) the test to see if you are qualified for the position. This also allows you the chance to see whether you’d enjoy this type of work. They only test 2 times a year, in Jan. and again in Jun or July. There is normally a waiting list for the testing process. So you will want to get your name on the waiting list so that you will be offered the chance to take the test.

You do this by sending a letter of interest to tohair@gafundraising.com. They do not require a resume to be sent. Send a brief email explaining your interest in testing for the Home Based Operator position and make sure to include your contact information.

Once you are contacted to take the test and successfully pass, you will be notified when the next available HBO opening comes up. Again, be forewarned, there may be a long waiting period from when you pass your test until you are finally awarded a Fall contract. They do pull applicants based on testing scores. So preparing by spending time practicing and sharpening your data entry skills before testing would be wise.

Please don’t let my emphasizing of the waiting time discourage you. This is a coveted online data entry job so you have to expect a large group wanting to get in. If you are interested in finding legitimate online data entry work then this is a company worth applying to. By all means do apply, take the test and wait it out.

Because that’s how its done, you’ve planted a good seed, now you wait for it to spout. And soon that time will come for you, a contract offered, most likely when you have forgotten all about it. And this seedling will be a pleasant surprise, one you can appreciate and will want to nurture.  This is a seedling that will lead you to a guaranteed harvest. You now have a ‘Superior’ egg added to your work at home basket.

‘Superior’ Advice for wah Freelancers: Get your ducks in a row, don’t put all your eggs in one basket & don’t put all your eggs in someone elses basket.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably cut things out of magazines and pinned them on your bulletin board. I’ve taken pictures and posters of things or places that make me feel good and hung them where I can see them often. I’ve been doing this since I’ve been a kid, and it really does work.

Create a board that reflects what you do want to be, do or have in your life

A vision board is simply a visual representation or collage of the things that you want to have, be, or do in your life. It consists of a poster or foam board with cut-out pictures, drawings and/or writing on it of the things that you want in your life or the things that you want to become. It is a visual representation of your heart’s desires.

It can be as simple as images printed or drawn on paper or cutouts pasted on cardboard to fancy software programs allowing you to fully experience your dreams using visual, audio and repetition programs. Bottom line you want this to represent your vision and dreams – what makes you smile and feel good when you think of having, being or doing it? If you want a colorful future, then get out the colorful crayons.

Put it where you can see it only a regular daily basis You’ve done the fun part of creating it, now just hang it where you will see it on a regular basis. Hang that baby up right up on your office wall where you’ll see it from your monitor. This is the part where the dream seeds you planted will start to take root. You’ll be embedding your goals and dreams in your mind even when you are busy working. Without even trying hard, pretty soon, subconsciously you’ll just know and trust that your dreams are close by.

Focus Intent/ Concentrate on the Feelings & Good Emotions Take a few moments each day to focus on and actually feel the emotions that you put into your board. If you’re looking at a sports car, then imagine driving down the road in it. There are no rules about how much or how often you make changes, follow your heart. Let the playful side of you come out each day. What a better way to enter into your daily work, then having a smile on your face and joy in your heart.

There are many places to look for legitimate work at home jobs. Many of us combine paid job sites along with combing the free sites looking for available work. When we need more work, we first update our resumes and prepare new cover letters that can be adapted as needed. That way when we come across openings that we may be interested in, we are ready to apply.

Myself, I have created a warm and inviting atmosphere where I relish being. Because I spend some much time in my office, I have made it a room that I enjoy and one that inspires me. I have tried to create a safe, secure and loving environment that is open to abundance and inspiration. It was only when I learned to combine new age topics such as the universal laws and the laws of feng shui into my business that I really took off and defined my business and myself.

Here are some of my favorite tips on how to put more heart into your home office:

Keep an open mind. Look for inspiration by pouring over magazines and on the Internet for ideas. And take the time to really ask yourself how you feel when you are in your work space or home office. Look around the room and ask if the wall colors and pictures invoke good and positive feelings. When you run across something that you like, envision what it would look and feel like in your workspace.

Bring the outdoors in. Add plants and fresh flowers to your office. They not only produce healthier air, they add life and aroma to your space, making you feel better. Other things such as shells or driftwood are also beneficial. I myself, have a water fountain that I find very soothing, and it is said to promote prosperity.

Be mindful to the quality of light in your office. If you’re not getting enough natural light, you will not enjoy working no matter how much you love your job. Your computer screen should be the strongest light in the room. If your overhead light is too bright, you’ll be straining to see the screen.Reduce discomfort by using ergonomics. A pleasant and comfortable work station if not only more beneficial to your health, it will also increase your productivity. You may have to add a footrest under your workstation. For proper back support, your feet should be flat on the ground or on a footrest. Otherwise you may end up at the end of the day with your back and/or shoulders hurting unnecessarily.

Add art or pictures that invite in inspiration. Deliberately go out and find or create something that will inspire you. You may have just the right item buried in your attic such as grandma’s crewel picture or grandpa’s ink drawings. You can always find uplifting quotes and print them off and post them where you will see them. A vision board is a great example of a great way to make use of this tip.

Out with the old and in with the new. Cleaning out the clutter on a regular basis will allow room for more prosperity and new opportunities. You want to keep an open-air flow in your office, one that will allow new and better things to flow into your life. This can also mean the daunting task of cleaning out your email on a regular basis to allow room for good news to flow into your box. Don’t be the one who missed out on a great new opportunity because your inbox or desk was piled so high you missed the offer or deadline.

I hope you enjoy these tips and can take away something that will help brighten up your office. Opening of your heart can never be wrong. Just be careful, you might unleash some great powers that you’ve been keeping under wraps. And remember that many a great person has said “follow your heart, and the money will follow”……..

In order to cover all the areas of a good work at home resume, the article I wrote on the subject had to be fairly long. But in order to cover everything for someone really looking for information on creating a good resume, it had to be. This information comes from the many years of management and hiring experience I’ve got under my belt. You Deserve to Have What You Desire!   If you’re genuinely confident that you have what it takes to telecommute – then it’s time to roll up your sleeves and find that perfect job. It is now your job to find a way to make money at home using your unique talents and skills.

And just like in planting a garden, if you’ve taken the time to dream and plan you will then be able to plant the right seeds. I am a big believer in narrowing your job search to the jobs you are specifically looking for and have the experience and proper eqpt. to do. Then go after them with all you got setting forth intent which will lead to success.
If you have goals and have taken the time to plan, you will be in the top 5-8% of those in areas of business!
